Member of Technical Staff, Telecom & Modem
Reading modem traces well is rare, which is why this stays a specialist problem. You'll build the first system that does automatic cross-layer root cause from the baseband, through QMI and the radio HAL, into Android, grounded in the customer's own stack. The same applies on the Wi-Fi side: automatic cross-layer root cause from the Wi-Fi driver and firmware, through the networking stack and management plane, on OpenWrt-class access points and CPE.
logcat.ai is the AI engineering layer for the operating-system stack. We build agentic systems for Linux and Android devices: we ingest the diagnostic artifacts a device emits (bugreports, logcat, dmesg, modem traces, ramdumps, perfetto, pcap, CAN) and help device makers diagnose, remediate, test, and author features across their OS stack, grounded in their own BSP. Think Datadog and Cursor combined for the OS layer. A VC-backed startup with a small, senior team. You work directly with the founders.
The bar
A quick, honest gut-check before you spend time on an application. If most of this sounds like you, we'd genuinely love to talk. If it's not you yet, no hard feelings, and please keep an eye on our other roles as they open.
- 0110+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- 02Deep expertise in at least one of:
- Cellular: modem/baseband bringup, debug, or protocol-stack development; DIAG/QMI, QXDM/QCAT, and reading modem crash dumps; 4G/5G NAS, RRC, and lower-layer behavior; IMS/VoLTE/VoNR debugging; comfort at the RIL / radio HAL boundary.
- Wi-Fi / CPE: OpenWrt-based access points or CPE; Wi-Fi 6/7 (802.11ax/be); hostapd/wpa_supplicant, mac80211/cfg80211; Qualcomm QSDK or MediaTek SDKs; debugging from wlan driver and firmware traces, hostapd logs, syslog, and packet captures.
- 03Proficient in day-to-day work with CLI-based AI coding tools like Claude Code (or an equivalent). It's how the team operates, not a nice-to-have.
- Build parsers and analysis for modem traces: DIAG, QMI, QXDM/QCAT, modem ramdumps and crash logs.
- Build parsers and analyzers for AP/CPE diagnostics: wlan driver and firmware logs, hostapd/wpa_supplicant logs, syslog, and packet captures.
- Map observed failures to root cause across NAS, RRC, and L1/L2, and across the RIL / radio HAL interface into Android.
- Implement Wi-Fi-stack reasoning for the platform: association and auth flows, roaming, mesh (EasyMesh), throughput and interference triage, driver and firmware crash analysis.
- Encode the cellular- and Wi-Fi-stack reasoning the platform uses to ground remediations.
- Qualcomm modem internals.
- MediaTek modem familiarity (ELT / MTK logging).
- Carrier certification or lab/field debug experience.
- Any exposure to log-analysis or ML tooling.
- Network-side or RAN familiarity (gNB, RRC, NGAP, CU/DU/RU splits, open-RAN).
- EasyMesh, TR-069/TR-369 (USP), or TR-181 device management.
- RF debug and throughput/interference triage.
- FTTH/ONT familiarity.
- Operator acceptance testing.
- Top-of-market salary and founding equity.
- Comprehensive medical insurance for you and your family.
